Tye McCarthy

Tye McCarthy is the first "home grown" blue belt under Dennis Asche who has a deep passion for competing and teaching alike.

Tye began training in martial arts at the age of 5 in wrestling, and at the age of 6 in Taekwondo. He quickly became proficient in his training, earning his green belt and competing several times in pacific northwest tournaments taking home Gold and Bronze medals in his category for forms.

In 2015, Tye moved to Bend, Oregon and enrolled at Central Oregon Community College. Through his job making subs, Tye met 3rd Degree black belt Dennis Asche who sparked his interests in martial arts once again. In 2016 Tye began training with Asche at Connection Rio Jiu-Jitsu Academy.

With less than a year of consistent training Tye competed in his first Jiu-Jitsu competition, and a few months after that, earned his first gold medal. In August 2018, Tye was awarded his blue belt by Dennis Asche.

As one of the kids class instructors, Tye knows that teaching will not just simply make others better at Jiu-Jitsu, but will also make him a better leader, coach, and human being in the process. Coaching kids, Tye believes, is a great way to spread the technical knowledge that Professor Asche has given him and prepare the next generation ofhigh level competitors.

Tye's passion drives him to not only be the best competitor in the world but to be the best teacher he can possibly be. With the Connection Rio team by his side and Professor Asche pushing him forward, Tye knows that he can accomplish his competition goals of becoming a National champion, Pan-American champion, and World champion.
